Since our founding in 1975, Kane, Pugh, Knoell, Troy & Kramer LLP has been absolutely committed to delivering the best results for our clients.

In 1976, George H. Knoell, III, joined founding partners, Edward F. Kane and William H. Pugh, IV, and, over the past forty years, the firm has grown in both size and reputation. Today, our firm employs 33 attorneys and have established ourselves as a leader within the field of civil litigation.

Our clients include Casualty, Workers Compensation and Professional Liability Insurance carriers, self-insured, hospitals, corporations and municipalities. Our firm carries Martindale Hubbell’s highest rating and is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Law Firms. Our attorneys have tried many hundreds of cases to verdict in ten Pennsylvania counties, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and have also appeared often in the Commonwealth, Superior and Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, including the presentation of prevailing arguments in several landmark cases.

Leading Professionals

Traditionally, firm attorneys have been active in the Bar Leadership in both the Pennsylvania and the Montgomery Bar Associations.

William H. Pugh, V was the Immediate Past President of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, with his term ending in 2016-2017. He also served as Zone 9 Governor. Justin A. Bayer is currently the chair of the Medical-Legal Committee of the Montgomery Bar Association and sits on the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Board of Governors. Mr. Bayer is the past Chair of the Young Lawyers’ Division of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and served for three years on the Montgomery Bar Association’s Executive Committee. Paul C. Troy is a past Chair of the PBA House of Delegates and a past Chair of the PBA YLD Division. Mr. Troy also served as President of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. William H. Pugh, IV, Mr. Pugh, V, and Mr. Troy have all served as Presidents of the Montgomery Bar Association. Mr. Pugh, IV, Mr. Pugh V, Mr. Troy and Robert Connell Pugh have all served as Presidents of the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Pugh, IV was honored by the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers Association as “Trial Lawyer of the Year” in 2001. Mr. Pugh, V was honored by the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers Association as “Trial Lawyer of the Year” in 2007. Mr. Troy was also honored by the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers Association as “Trial Lawyer of the Year” in 2011. Firm attorneys also serve as ADR mediators and arbitrators. Mr. Pugh IV and Mr. Pugh, V have been appointed by the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas to serve as Discovery Masters. Mr. Kane, Mr. Pugh, IV, and Mr. Pugh, V are Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Pugh, IV, Mr. Pugh, V, George H. Knoell, III, Mr. Troy and Andrew J. Kramer are members of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Mr. Pugh, V and Mr. Troy are Fellows of the Litigation Counsel of America. Mr. Pugh, IV, Mr. Knoell, Mr. Pugh, V, Mr. Troy, Mr. Kramer and Mr. R. Pugh have all been voted by their peers as Pennsylvania Super Lawyers.

In addition to their full case load our attorneys are committed to giving back to the community. Twenty of the firms attorney are trained child advocates who volunteer for Montgomery Child Advocacy Project (MCAP). MCAP is a non-profit dedicated to providing free legal services to children who are abused or neglected and are in the legal or social service areas. Other attorneys volunteer for Wills for Heroes, a non-profit providing wills for first responders and veterans by volunteer lawyers.
